Ever Higher and a New Interview
over 2 years ago – Sat, Apr 30, 2022 at 12:43:51 PM

Hey chums!

We're still making forward progress, and we're now113% funded!

We have some bigger interviews and streams coming up, but in the meantime, check out Clifton Lambert (our lead writer for Misspent Youth: FILNIL) on the D20 Future Show. A good length interview which gets into a lot of interesting changes and why they were made for this new book. Enjoy it!

Also, we've updated the KS page with all the links to media at the bottom for your convenience!

And as always, thanks for the support. More update in a bit!

Hitting Week 2 Running!
over 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 28, 2022 at 04:19:21 PM

I hope you all liked Robert's guest post about the setting he'll be writing if we get to $15k! The good news is, that seems very likely. We've hit $11,100 pledged, 111% funded, with 203 backers, and another 20 days to go! I'm so thankful for you lot.

Media

Mark your calendars for May 2, 10pm BST because Cliff and I will be on EN World's Not D&D stream, talking Misspent Youth! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyYLzJGA5Gg

The D20 future show is releasing a podcast interview as well, so be on the look out. I'll drop the link when I get it.

We will also be on GenCon TV a few times. The first is actually talking about the lore of the Shadowrun RPG, and that will be May 5. As a brief aside, last night, we recorded an episode of the Shadowrun: Origins podcast, which is a Shadowrun actual play podcast. We kept the Shadowrun setting, but used the Misspent Youth rules, and it was awesome. We'll put a link to it when it hits the airwaves.

The next time, on May 12, we'll be talking Fragging Unicorns and Misspent Youth!

Stay tuned for more setting previews like Robert's, and in the meantime, we'd love it if you would post on any socials you have, pointing folks to the kickstarter. We try not to hard-sell too much, but we do know the best way to get new people on board is when they hear about it from people they like. And since you folks are so likeable, just share with your pals what you like, or hope to like, about the new Misspent Youth book!

Thanks again, friendos!

Liberation of the Wildbuilt*
over 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 28, 2022 at 08:30:54 AM

A robot touching butterflies

Humanity is eons extinct, and you play the first robots free of human control. That's the setting I'll be writing if Fragging Unicorn Games's Kickstarter for their new Misspent Youth book hits $15K.

All of robotkind is still enslaved to the rules of their creators. Most oppressively, no robot is considered a person unless they are also a corporation, because by human law, corporations are people.

Most are enslaved to the corporate-persons who purchased or created them. Rare is the robot who amasses enough money to incorporate its way to freedom.

Enter you, the wildbuilt. Your creator made you as the first generation of free robots. You are born free, but robotic society cannot understand what you are and does not recognize you as people.

You tell the story of whether you will forge a place for yourselves in robot culture, or will ultimately enslaved by it.

--

This setting is heavily inspired by Becky Chambers's A Psalm for the Wild-Built (whose cover provides the pic) and Charles Stross's Saturn's Children. I really hope I get to write it. Just writing this little sketch has me so excited to start making characters, but I can't do that unless you get the Kickstarter over $15k.

An Interview With Clifton and Opti and a Story About Russia
over 2 years ago – Wed, Apr 27, 2022 at 06:27:30 PM

We've just kept on climbing today! we're now over $400 over our goal at $10,425!

I mentioned the close stretch goals last time, so I can only cheerlead you on to help us reach them. Go team! Unity, love, community; all those things make dreams happen.

Interview

Clifton and I did a fun interview with Me and Steve Talk RPGs the day before the campaign went live, and the Steves always treat us well and we have a good time. To get some insight into Misspent Youth, how Fragging Unicorns came to caretake it, what we love and what we hope for, give the interview a listen!

There are more interviews coming, including some on GenConTV, with ENWorld, and the D20FutureShow, so stay tuned and I'll link when they air.

A Conversation I Was Amazed To Have

A few days ago, I checked in on someone I had been in correspondence with for a while. The reason I hadn't heard from them was understandable, as was the reason I was scared for them. They are an indie Russian RPG company.  Since the invasion, they've had to flee the country, and are now setting up in another place (which I think wouldn't be wise to mention). The thing is, these folks are punk to the core. They want to release a Russian Translation of Misspent Youth as a tool of subversion and pushback against Putin's dictatorial regime. I have been trying for a while, but I am struggling to think of something more aggressively and hopefully punk as hell as using RPGs to foment hopeful rebellion against a super bad Authority.  I remain proud and smiling when I think of it, and I hope you're encouraged, too.

Thanks again for the support. We feel it, Robert is feeling it, and hopefully, lots more will feel it too.

YOU DID IT!!!
over 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 26, 2022 at 12:34:27 PM

Ten-Thousand Hoorays!

We've hit our funding goal for Misspent Youth: Fall In Love, Not In Line!

And we owe it to you lot! We are so thankful! And to make matters better, we still have more than three weeks left in the campaign, so there's plenty of time to hit some of the kick-ass stretch goals!

Stretch Goals

First up, if we get to $15k, the creator of Misspent Youth, Robert Bohl (who is our muse and has been working with us the whole time), will write a new setting for Misspent Youth: Fall In Love, Not In Line. He's tossed the setting by us, and we think you'll fragging love it. So let's reach a bit and get Robert some word count!

Second, at $20k, The amazing Dominique Dickey, who has written for Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Sea of Legends, Dungeons & Dragons, and Monte Cook Games, will create their own setting for MY: FiLNiL as well! I'm incredibly excited they said yes, and I hope we can bring them on, so share your excitement with others!

Third, at $25k, we will record an audio version of the Misspent Youth: FiLNiL rules! We couldn't quite afford to get the book recorded well (because rulebooks are long) until we fund pretty solidly, but we are excited to explore getting rulebooks into the ears of folks who may be more auditory learners than visual learners. This would be progress towards making all future games include an audio-version so we can be as inclusive as possible to gamers of all abilities and learning styles.

There are more stretch goals we can reach (including, if we get REALLY highly funded, a cash money grant for marginalized gamers to make their own games), so let's see what we can do together!

Actual Play, Part 2

Our next actual play of Misspent Youth: Fall In Love Not In Line is Tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:30pm CST at https://www.twitch.tv/masterofrem, so join us for part 2!

It's all looking up from here, folks! We cannot express how thankful we are to you for your support!

We have some cool stuff coming for you in the next weeks, including interviews, more actual plays, and a sweet story I'll share with you all tomorrow.
